VACANCIES

1.Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Stem Cell / Proteomics / Molecular Biology

The above post is supported by the British Heart Foundation and based within the Academic Cardiology Department at the King's College Denmark Hill Campus. The Vascular Proteomics Group at King's College is housed in the newly opened James Black Centre. Current research interests focus upon the role of progenitor cells for vascular repair. More detailed information can be found on our home page at www.vascular-proteomics.com. The applicants should have experience in molecular biology. Practical experience of working with proteomics would be an advantage. The duration of the post is for 2 years.

Research Environment and Training: Equipped with the powerful combination of the LTQ-Orbitrap XL high performance mass spectrometer and the LTQ-XL-ETD system, our facility offers the most advanced proteomics capabilities available to today's researchers and is on the leading edge of proteomic research in cardiovascular medicine. The proposed project will provide specific training in proteomic techniques. The research fellow will be based in a multidisciplinary environment of molecular biologists, cell biologists, clinician scientists, and other Ph.D./MD students and will be expected to participate in and make formal presentations to the weekly departmental laboratory meeting, and to submit and, if accepted, present, research findings to national and international peer-reviewed meetings. The project proposed in this application is related to several other ongoing studies, although not overlapping with any of these, providing the opportunity to collaborate within the group.

As a minimum requirement, the candidate must have a PhD degree in a science subject. The salary for the post-doctoral position will be in the range of £29,716 p.a.(approx. €39,000) inclusive. Informal enquiries should be made to Dr M. Mayr (contact details below). There is no closing date for applications. To apply, please submit a detailed CV (including details of any research experience), an academic transcript and two academic references to Dr M. Mayr. Please include a covering letter stating why you are interested in this project. If you have had research experience, one of your referees should be your supervisor for this period of research.

2.Research Technician - Proteomics and metabolomics in cardiovascular disease

The above post is supported by the Heptagon Proof of Concept Fund and based within the Academic Cardiology Department at King's College London housed in the £30M James Black Centre, a new research building that opened in January 2007. Current research interests focus upon the role of biomarkers in cardiovascular disease. More specifically, the project available is centred around the use of proteomics and metabolomics to characterize different patient samples and to identify potential clinical markers for diagnosis and therapy. The duration of the post is for 18 months.

Research Environment and Training: The proposed project will provide specific training in proteomic and metabolomic techniques. Our new proteomic facility provides the latest equipment, including a high-resolution orbitrap mass spectrometer and a linear ion trap with electron-transfer dissociation. The research technician will be based in a multidisciplinary environment of molecular biologists, cell biologists, clinician scientists, and other Ph.D./MD students. The project proposed in this application is related to several other ongoing studies.

The salary for the technician position will be in the range of £24,655 p.a. inclusive (approx. €31,500). Informal enquiries should be made to Dr M. Mayr (contact details below). More detailed information can be found on our home page at www.vascular-proteomics.com. The closing date for applications is 01/06/2008. To apply, please submit it a detailed CV (including details of any work experience) and two academic references to Dr M. Mayr. Please include a covering letter stating why you are interested in this project.
